This Land Rover Defender is actually a modern Jeep Wrangler underneath

Anyone want a hand-built V8-powered American Defender?

Land Rover’s latest model range is growing every year. The Defender is the most popular model. A three-row version will soon join the range. A recent report suggested that there may be a new Range Rover off-roader. Things are getting a bit confusing. We have a new, very interesting option for those who miss simpler times.

Black Bridge Motors has created the Function SUV. It is designed and manufactured by Black Bridge Motors. The Norwalk-based manufacturer is launching a highly modernized Defender that hides Jeep Wrangler bones beneath the skin. Let’s first look at the overall concept of the project.

According to the company, its mission is “to create vehicles that are timeless in design and honor timeless classics but combine modern technologies with vintage looks for best-in-class driving ability.”

The Defender in the attached gallery is mounted on a Jeep Wrangler JK chassis, which is six inches wider and offers more space for passengers than a stock Defender. Function offers many interior and exterior customization options. Each vehicle is built entirely by hand. Aluminum is used to make the body of this SUV.

Standard power comes from a 6.2 liter LS3 GM-sourced motor that generates 430 horsepower (312 kilowatts) and is mated with a six speed automatic transmission. You can also choose a supercharged LT4 option that produces 650 hp (478 kW), paired with an 8-speed automatic. Both powertrain variants come with a 24-month/50,000-miles warranty.

Function states that the Defender is a fully modernized Defender and starts at $145,000.
