The record was shortened by almost three seconds.
Acura’s second-generation NSX was not a commercial success. The supercar, which is electrified, ended up being scrapped after just five years of existence. Sales never took off. Honda’s luxury division decided to give the V6 hybrid a proper sendoff and take the “Type S suffix” for the performance car’s final hurrah.
It’s been shown from different angles in static photos, but Acura now allows us to see the NSX Types in action. The lap record is set by Acura. Ricky Taylor is driving the Long Beach Blue sports car, which has set a lap record at the California Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach street circuit.
The time he crossed the line was 1 minute, 32.784 seconds. This is nearly three seconds faster than the previous record. Peter Cunningham drove a standard NSX around the same track in 2019, and finished the lap in 1:32.784 seconds. This time difference shows that the Type S is more than a cash grab. It also highlights the Type S’s ability to deliver significant performance improvements.
Only 350 reservations are being made worldwide, 300 of which are for the United States. Acura received all the reservations with deposits in less than 24 hours. There is a waiting list of more than 100 people hoping that a reservation holder will be able to bail out. The NSX Type S is $169,500, or $182,500 if you add the Lightweight Package. However, the Honda-badged version, sold in Japan, retails for more than $250,000.
