The tablet-styled MMI seems to have disappeared.
We received our first spy photos with the next generation Audi S3 Sedan a few days ago. Now, we have a second set of spy shots with regular A3 Sedan. This is a little more exciting than the base A3 spy shots, as the prototype in question looks like an S Line model. The front bumper has sporty-looking air intakes.
We believe that the near-production test car was the S Line model, as it has larger wheels and a slightly lower suspension. This will replace the outgoing model’s circular exhaust tips with an angular design. The camouflage conceals a subtle trunk spoiler. The headlights and taillights look very similar to the larger A4 facelift.
Although we don’t have the opportunity to see inside the cabin, from certain angles we can see that there is nothing sticking out of it. The retractable tablet-styled MMI infotainment systems of the A3 are what we’re referring to. It is likely that it has been integrated into the center console, as on the A6 and sedans, for a more cohesive appearance. It’s likely that the tablet has been removed from the vehicle.
The history of the A3 Sedan and Sportback has shown us that they will be slightly larger than their predecessors. The updated MQB platform and a slight extension of the wheelbase should result in more space for passengers and luggage.
The A1 Sportback, the Q2 crossover and the A3 Sedan were deemed too small to be sold in the United States. While the A3 Sportback was never allowed (except for the E-Tron), the A3 Sedan will again be the entry point to Audi USA’s lineup. The base A3 starts at $33,300, while the more expensive S3 starts at $44,500. The flagship sedan-only RS3 begins at $56,200. Although it’s still too early to discuss pricing for the next-gen cars due to Audi likely packing more tech into its compact cars than ever before, a slight increase in price seems possible.
Audi is believed to be preparing a crossover-ized version of the A3 in Europe, where the Sportback will transition into a new generation. The will not get the Allroad badge as it lacks Quattro but will have a slight increase in ground clearance, plastic body cladding, and a crossover feel.
Audi will unveil the next-generation A3 Sportback at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The sedan is likely to follow shortly.
