Factory Five Do It-Yourself GTM Supercar

Factory Five describes the GTM concept to be a modern, well-engineered supercar that is affordable for everyone. The catch is self-assembly as well as the provision of your own GM running gear.

This car is not for the faint-hearted. If the phone book is your first port-of-call at any sign of mechanical trouble, then you should look away. Factory Five may have the perfect car for you if you are a more adventurous enthusiast and have the money to spare: a supercar that can be built yourself.

GTM Concept is a concept that offers a well-engineered, modern supercar at a reasonable price. The catch is self-assembly as well as the provision of your own GM running gear.

The GTM Kit is $19,990 and includes all parts that were not donated from the Corvette from which the car was built. However, this is only a small portion of the total cost. The parts required to complete the kit are available from any 1997-2004 Corvette, or can be ordered from GM. If the car is built from a donor C5, the cost will be $30,000 and the paintwork is the customer’s responsibility. Factory Five estimates that most kits will run between $250-300, and include Chevrolet parts, wheels/tires, paint, and the Porsche transaxle. The average builder will need to spend a lot of time.

Factory Five’s Engineering Department designed the demo car and constructed it with parts from a 1999 Corvette C5. It is powered by a crate GM Performance Parts 500 hp Z06 engine, which was used in the Corvette C5 of the same name. This engine cost $13,000 in 2006. Although the vehicle cost $61,733, few details about its performance have been made public, including a 0-100mph time of 6.66 seconds. Standard kits with a 350 horsepower Corvette engine are expected to be able to reach 0-60 mph in the middle-3s and go 1/4 miles in around 11 seconds.

Factory Five sounds a lot like the American supercar, the GTM. The firm boasts its American-made design and production process. factoryfive.com has more information.
