2021 Nissan Qashqai Featured With a New Platform and Range-Extender Hybrid

The Rogue Sport’s European brother, the Rogue Sport, will make its debut in spring 2021.

The next-generation Nissan Qashqai was first seen on public roads in summer. The Qashqai, which is the European cousin to the Rogue Sport will be getting a complete redesign in the coming year. The model for the Old continent will be the first to arrive. Japanese automaker, Honda Motor Company, has released the first teaser images2021 Nissan Qashqai Featured With a New Platform and Range-Extender HybridThe photos aren’t very clear. They show a prototype that has been heavily camouflaged, which we have seen many times before. One image gives us a glimpse at the LED daytime running lights on the new Qashqai, located between the front fascia and the hood. Although it’s too early to know for sure, this layout is very similar to that of the Nissan Juke’s front fascia.

Nissan claims that the 2021 Qashqai is the first model in Europe to use the CMF-C. This should help with a healthy diet. The aluminum alloy used in the construction of the four doors, front fenders and hood cuts 46 pounds (21 kg) off the weight of the previous model.

Nissan has also stated that the new Qashqai is available in Europe with two powertrain options. The diesel engine is gone, but you can order a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with mild-hybrid tech. Although the manufacturer does not provide any details, it states that the unit will come in two power outputs.

The Qashqai will be getting the so-called ePower mill. This is basically a hybrid powertrain that extends the range. The combustion engine doesn’t directly power the wheels, but instead generates electricity that is then used by the electric drive. Unfortunately, there are no details available for this setup.

Nearly all of the new Qashqai was developed in Europe. We expect that its North American counterpart will be highly adapted to North American needs. We don’t know if the range-extender option will be made available on the other side of the big lake. We may find out more when the Qashqai’s new model debuts next spring.
