Winnebago Roam is the brand’s first camper van for wheelchair users

Even while sitting, it has easy access to cabin amenities. Nice.

It’s not a new idea to make motorhomes accessible for wheelchair users. We’ve seen a lot of examples like Winnebago’s Class A RVs, which were first revealed in 2019.

The Minnesota-based RV company has revealed a second variant of its wheelchair-friendly motorhomes. The Winnebago Roam is a Class B camper van that’s based on the Ram ProMaster. It doesn’t need much parking space or a high admission price. It is also smaller than the other wheelchair-friendly RVs in Winnebago’s lineup, but still has plenty of space inside.

The Winnebago Roam’s key feature is its remote-controlled wheelchairlift that allows for easy ingress or egress. It is a Braun UVL wheelchair lift equipped with a wireless remote. The wheelchair can be used as a second seat when traveling with integrated tie-downs.

Winnebago made sure cabinets and storage compartments in the Roam were accessible while sitting down, and created duffels to make it easier to load and unload. The galley has a sink, microwave and refrigerator. There is also an outlet for an induction stovetop.

The Winnebago Roam’s convertible sofa can be converted into a bed by pressing a button. The power feature allows for easy conversion, especially for those with impaired mobility.

The Roam is based upon the Ram ProMaster. However, Winnebago was capable of making enough room for our friends to move around in. Even though the bathroom is small, it has a shower and a cassette-style toilet.

Winnebago didn’t disclose the price of its wheelchair-friendly Roam campervan at the time this article was written. The price for non-Accessibility Enhance camper vans from Winnebago hovers around $100,000.
