Prices in the US start at $39900
In 1961, the Cooper name was first used on a Mini that was performance-oriented. The Mini Anniversary Edition is being launched by the brand to celebrate 60 years of making a small, agile car. The Mini Anniversary Edition is now available at American dealers at a cost of $39,900 plus an $850 delivery fee.
The John Cooper Work Hardtop 2 Door is the starting point for the Mini Anniversary Edition. Only available in British Racing Green with red hood stripes and white hood stripes. It comes with a white roof and mirror caps. The package also includes a panoramic moonroof.
“John Cooper launched sixty years of performance innovation, with the original Mini Cooper. The Anniversary Edition honors Cooper’s legacy that helped define Mini’s performance pedigree for the past six decades,” Patrick McKenna (head of marketing at Mini USA), said.
In 1948, John Cooper and Charles Cooper founded Cooper Car Company. He won the 1959 and 1960 World Championship titles for Formula One. Later, the Minis were tuned to win at the track and in rallying.
The Mini Anniversary Edition features the Cooper Car Company logo on its front fenders, upper Cpillars and treadplates to celebrate this connection. The Mini Cooper’s first race in which it wore this number was also honored by the ghost-effect number 74 on its doors.
The Mini Anniversary Edition’s dashboard has the signatures John Cooper, John Michael Cooper and Charlie Cooper. Standard equipment includes navigation and an infotainment system.
The powertrain works the same way as any John Cooper Works Hardtop 2 Door. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder produces 228 horsepower (170 Kilowatts) as well as 235 pound-feet (319 Newton meters) of torque. According to the factory specifications, it can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 5.9 seconds.
