It’s expected to arrive in 2020.
Elon Musk has revealed a surprise after the unveiling of the Tesla Semi tonight: the new Roadster. The Tesla Roadster has returned, and it will be on the road in 2020. It is expected to perform at an incredible level. We’ll let you decide if it’s worth all the hype. These are just the beginnings of something very cool.
Update:
Let’s get to the point:
7,376 pound feet of torque .
It can go from 0-60 mph in just 1.9 seconds making it the fastest production car in the world.
In 4.2 seconds, you can go from 0 to 100 mph.
Quarter mile in 8.8 seconds. This is faster than any other production car.
Top speed 250+ mph
Highway range: 620 miles
Elon points out that you can drive the Roadster from Los Angeles, California to San Francisco, and back, on one charge. This is highway speed. These numbers are for the prototype car that was shown tonight. The production car may be faster, have more range and have a higher top-end. It’s amazing. We will believe it when it’s here.
Three electric motors will power the new Roadster – one at the front and two at the back – to give it an all-wheel drive. A 250-kilowatt hour battery provides the incredible power. You can remove the roof, true to its name. It can seat four people, or two, and it will hold some grocery bags.
Do you want one? To reserve one, you’ll need $50,000 and the base price is $200,000. You can also order one of the 1,000 Founders Series cars, which will cost you $250,000 up front.
