Jay Leno’s Garage Visits GM Defense Infantry Squad Vehicle

The president of GM Defense will be present.

GM Defense already delivered the first 649 infantry squad vehicle (ISV) units. The Colorado-based military troop carrier is part the $214.3 million contract with US Army Contracting Command Detroit Arsenal. This could increase production to 2,065 vehicles in the next eight-years.

One of the units visited Jay Leno’s Garage with Stephen duMont, president of GM Defense LLC. You can see the entire screen in the embedded video.

The Chevrolet Colorado is the basis of the GM Defense ISV. It is made from off-the-shelf parts including parts from the Colorado ZR2 or Chevrolet Performance race parts. The ISV isn’t a pick. GM Defense converts the bed into additional seating.

The ISV can transport up to nine soldiers across different terrains with roll bars around its occupants. The ISV can transport up to nine soldiers on different terrains thanks to components like Chevy Performance long-travel desert-racing suspension with Multimatic’s Dynamic Suspensions Valve (DSSV), dampers and jounces, long travel rear leaf springs and high-angle upper controls arms.

The ISV’s turbodiesel Duramax four-cylinder Duramax turbodiesel engine produces more than 186 horsepower (139kilowatts) as well as 369 pound-feet (599 Newton-meters). The four-wheel-drive system includes electronic locking differentials front and rear.

In keeping with the electrification trend GM Defense also created a unique electric ISV. This vehicle is called the All Electric Concept Vehicle. The concept is powered by GM’s eCrate powertrain, which uses an electric motor that produces 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts), and 266 lb.ft (361 Newton meters) of torque. The electric ISV’s range can be extended by a 400-volt, 60-watt-hour battery.
