Ram sales are up already this year.
Yes, there is a medium-sized Ram pickup truck arriving. However, when exactly it will arrive is not yet known . Ram hopes buyers will choose one of its fullsize trucks, which are more affordable than the others.
The 2019 Ram 1500 – Classic has a starting MSRP at $27,395. This is an excellent deal for what is basically mid-size money. The starting MSRP is $6,000 less than the all-new 2019 RAM 1500. This means big pickup customers can still leave the dealership full and satisfied without needing to spend more money on the latest model. Ram boss Jim Morrison hopes that buyers will be attracted to the Ram 1500 Classic and Warlock, with no truck below them.
Morrison said, “I think one the great things about the Ram Classic or Warlock is that we’re able [midsize] customers with trucks at a great price point,” in an interview with Motor1.com.
Although pricing is a key selling factor, not all customers are ready to pay for a full-size truck. Although fuel economy might be an issue for some customers, they also have a preference for something smaller and easier to drive in areas where a larger truck would be too cumbersome.
Morrison acknowledged that a full-size truck may not be sufficient in certain places due to size restrictions.
Mike Manley, FCA CEO, recently stated that Ram will soon have a “metric-ton” midsize truck. This will target a market that the new Jeep Gladiator cannot satisfy. Similar to the Jeep SUV, a new Ram SUV would be logical to complement it, but Morrison didn’t comment.
“Many of our dealers sell both Ram or Jeep. He concluded that Jeep has a complete [SUV] portfolio.
In the latest earnings call, Mike Manley, CEO of FCA, stated that the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic will continue to be available for some time and would be a key vehicle for government and commercial fleet sales. The all-new model can be targeted at the individual consumer better.
