Type R for rendering.
We’ve seen Honda’s teaser images, and we have our photos taken by spy photographers. Now it’s time for to take off the camouflage and reveal the design secrets of Honda’s new Civic Type R.
If you found the design of the previous generation too busy, the revamped CTR will have a cleaner appearance. This is if the 2022 Civic Hatchback is any indication. Honda will still have a large rear wing that is big enough for lunch, so don’t think Honda has lowered the car’s aggressive appearance. Although the Ferrari-esque triple-tip exhaust will be there, the bodywork is more pleasing to the eye.
The latest information contradicts rumors that Honda will completely rethink the Civic Type R formula and switch to AWD and a hybrid powertrain. However, it appears that Honda has not changed the proven recipe. Stick shift, which is already confirmed, will power the front wheels and be compatible with a turbocharged gasoline engine of 2.0-liter capacity.
Although the jury is still out about how many ponies will go to the front wheels, logic suggests that Honda will massage the four-pot to get a little more power than the previous model’s 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft (400Nm) offering. The new CTR will be the last European-made car that Honda sells without electrification. This means there is a lot riding on this performance hatch to succeed.
The Civic Type R will be available in the United States by Honda for the model year 2023. A little bird told us that the Si, a sedan-based Civic Type R, will soon be available.
