2022 Kia Forte Revealed with a New Look and Bigger Screens

GT and GT-Line models come with a 10.25-inch standard touchscreen.

The K3 received a mid-cycle update from Kia in April for South Korea, but the North American version is only now. The Honda Civic rival is not switching to an alphanumeric moniker, as was the case for the Optima (now the ), but will continue to use its Forte nameplate in the 2022 model year.

Exterior changes are significant. Apart from the updated logo, redesigned headlights and new headlights for the Forte, there’s also a fresh take on Kia’s corporate “tigernose” grille. The GT model has a sportier front bumper and three-point LED fog lamps that are arranged diagonally.

The GT-Line gets new fog lights. Both upper-spec models have different LED taillights. The exterior changes include 16- and 17-inch wheels, LXS and GT-Line, as well as a spoiler for the trunk lid. The EX model was discontinued. This means that there are now only four trims: FE (FE), LXS (GT-Line), and GT.

The 2022 model’s driver’s display will be larger than ever, at 4.2 inches in standard. An 8-inch touchscreen is also available, which can be upgraded to a 10.25-inch infotainment. Kia will add wireless Android Auto integration and Apple CarPlay integration. There is also an electric parking brake with auto hold and a USB charger to charge rear-seat passengers.

Upgrade to the GT-Line/GT and get remote start. There’s also an option for synthetic leather upholstery. There are 15 safety and assist systems available, some new and some updated from the Forte’s pre-facelift Forte. It’s impressively equipped for a model this size, including blind spot and lane-following assist, navigation-based cruise control, and safe exit warning.

Two gasoline engines have been retained, so regular models will get the 2.0-liter unit that produces 147 horsepower and 132 pounds-feet (179 Newton meters) of torque. The GT features a turbocharged, 1.6-liter engine with 201 horsepower and 195 lbft (265 Nm), which is channeled to front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch auto. Forte GT gets a sportier exhaust and, more importantly, a multilink rear suspension for improved handling.

The Forte5 was also upgraded in South Korea, where it is known as K3 GT. However, no word has been given about the hatchback’s return to the United States.
