You get a lot for your little car.
In 2021, Gucci celebrates 100 years of luxury brand. Mattel is teaming up with Gucci to create the first Gucci-branded Hot Wheels vehicle. The 1982 Cadillac Seville will go on sale October 18 at a price of $120. This is much more than the Hot Wheels we used to get as children.
Gucci’s double-G pattern is featured on the Seville at 1:64 scale. There’s also gold piping on both the seats and the roof. It comes with a beautiful box and slipcover with the name of the fashion label on it.
The toy car can be purchased online (linked above). You can also purchase the toy car online at Gucci.com or in a few stores across major cities such as New York, Beijing and Seoul, Tokyo and Milan.
The Gucci-branded Cadillac Seville doesn’t just look like a fantasy car to tie together the two brands. They are real. For a brief glimpse, take a look at the video below.
AMC Hornet, a 1972 model year car, was the first to have a Gucci edition. The reclining front seats were in an extremely 1970s combination of red, green, and ivory. The carpet was dark green and featured a headliner in ivory and green, with the double-G pattern. It is a strange mix of a premium fashion label and plebian brand.
Gucci ended its association with AMC and joined forces with coachbuilder International Automotive Design Incorporated, (IAD), in Miami, Florida. Gucci was added to new Cadillac Sevilles that were fully equipped.
They were first made available for the 1978 model year. They were available in white, black, and brown. The Cadillac badges were replaced by gold Gucci emblems. The interior featured saddle brown leather and the Gucci trademark Gucci pattern on armrests. The headliner featured the double G motif.
A fantastic history of the Gucci Edition cars from Classic Cars Today Online states that the total number made of these Sevilles for 1978 is unknown. With a asking price of $22,900, the company produced 200 Sevilles for 1979. This is roughly $95,000 in 2021 dollars.
IAD and Gucci continued their partnership by modifying the Seville’s 1980 model year. Hot Wheels is replicating this car with its scale model.
