2022 BMW M2 CS Racing named new Flagship MotoGP Safety Car

To support the world’s most powerful motorcycle race, the Bavarian company will own a fleet M cars.

BMW just revealed its M-vehicles that will be used during the 2022 MotoGP season. This is a long-standing tradition. While there are a few M cars that can play various roles in the motorcycle competition, the M2 CS racing is the true star of the show. It is essentially a race car doing safety car duties.

BMW proudly claims that the coupe only required a few modifications to go from being a race car into a MotorGP safety car. These modifications include light bars and front lighting, as well as a special livery to celebrate 50 years of BMW M cars. The car’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine produces up to 450 horsepower (331kilowatts depending on the model). The equipment includes a mechanical limited slip differential with preload and separate cool, and specially made drive shafts and carbon roof.

“BMW M is our partner since 1999, and over the course this long-term partnership has always delighted us with new highlights,” Carmelo Ezpeleta (CEO of MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports), said. BMW M sets new standards this year with a safety car that is based on a real racing car. BMW M2 CS Racing MotoGP Safety Car is a testament to how deeply BMW M is involved in motorsport.

The M2 CS Racing BMW M model will not be the only one performing MotoGP duties. It will be joined by a variety of M cars, including the M4 Competition, M5 CS and M8 Competition Gran Coupe. All three will serve as safety cars for the new season. The championship’s new medical vehicle will be an X5 M Competition, while two BMW M 1000 RR motorcycles will serve as safety bikes. Last but not the least, the MotoGP will include the fully-electric BMW i4 M50 as a safety vehicle for the electric motorcycle series.

The Grand Prix of Qatar will be the first race of the new MotoGP season. Next, the GP of Indonesia (GP of Argentina) and GP of Indonesia (GP of Indonesia) will follow. The final race of the season will be held in Valencia on November 6.
