Ford already has some changes for the 2022 Mustang such as a new stealth edition and an optional GT Performance Package to the California Special. There is more to come, and it looks bad. According to Ford Authority citing “sources knowledgeable about the launch of the muscle car,” the new ‘Stang will have 10 less ponies than the old model.
As if this weren’t enough, the naturally-aspirated 5.0L Ti–VCT will lose 10 pound-feet (14 Nm) of torque. This will affect both the GT and Mach 1 Mustangs, regardless of body style or transmission. Although the jury is still out as to why the eight-cylinder engine produces less power in 2022, Ford Authority believes that the Coyote engine has been modified to comply with stricter emission regulations.
The Mustang GT will produce 450 horsepower and 410lb-ft (556 Nm) in the future, while the Mach 1 will only be able to manage 470 hp (556Nm) and 410lb-ft (556Nm). Europeans are worse off than this, considering that the GT on the Old Continent has 453 hp (338 kW), and 390 lbft (529Nm), while the Mach 1 is rated at 453 hp (453 kW) and 390 lbft (529Nm), respectively.
The Blue Oval website still displays the 2021 Mustang. However, the report states that Ford has opened its order books for the 2022MY. Customers will be able to place orders in the first quarter next year. The seventh generation of the iconic sports car, the S550-generation model, is expected to arrive in 2023.
Autoline Daily reported that Ford had already begun production of an Electric, non-SUV Mustang, in December 2028.
