2022 Lexus LX600 Debuts as Lux Version Of All New Land Cruiser

For the first time, the luxobarge gets dual touchscreens as well as F Sport and Ultra Luxury trims.

After 14 years of being on the market, the third-generation Lexus LX will be retired. The all-new SUV is worth the wait. It boasts a brand new platform which has reduced its weight by 441 pounds (200 kg) over its predecessor. This is because the new Toyota Land Cruiser has lost exactly the same amount of weight as its predecessor, and won’t be sold here.

It is exactly how everyone expected it to be. The side profile indicates that the LX is closely related to its mainstream Toyota counterpart. The Lexus’ quarter glass and rear column are slightly different, but the silhouette is almost identical. The main exterior changes to the LC include a massive spindle grille at front and a large LED light bar at rear. There is also more chrome.

The main differences are found inside the cabin, where the Mercedes competitor gets Lexus’ first dual-touchscreen setup. The upper screen measures 12.3 inches and displays navigation and audio controls. It also shows off-road details from the Multi-Terrain Monitor system, when you go off-the-beaten-path. The lower screen, measuring seven inches, provides quick access to climate settings. It can also be used as a support screen for Multi-Terrain Select. This screen shows the camera feed on one side and the off-road data on another.

The body-on-frame SUV LX is now Ultra Luxury. It features a four-seat configuration with independent rear seats that can recline up to 48 degrees. This marks the first appearance of the LX since 1995. You can also lower the front passenger seat by pressing a button to increase legroom, which is up to 43 inches (110 cms), and you also have a deployable footrest behind the front seat.

Additional features include reading lights and overhead ceiling vents. The LX Ultra Luxury also includes a rear-seat entertainment system that has dual screens. The upscale Lexus model comes with sunshades at the quarter and side windows. It also has comfortable seats with curved backrests and headrests. The center screen between the rear seats provides the same functionality as executive sedans.

The F Sport trim is another first for the LX. It rides on 22-inch alloy wheels, which are the largest available for the luxury barge. The F Sport trim is more than a visual package. Lexus also installed a Torsen limited slip differential to improve traction from the rear axle. F Sport grades include a front stabilizer, rear dampers, and adjustable settings for electric power steering and variable suspension.

The naturally aspirated V8 engine of 5.7-liters is no more. It has been replaced by a twin-turbo V6 of 3.5-liters. This V6 was shared with Land Cruiser. The engine produces 409 horsepower and 479 pounds-feet torque. This is an increase of 26 hp, and 76 lb.ft. The ten-speed automatic transmission replaces the eight-speed box.

The 2022 Lexus LX, like its predecessors, features the “golden ratio” of a 112-inch wheelsbase. However, the approach and departure angles were carried over from the third-generation model. You can use the crawl and downhill assist controls, as well as an active height control with more positions.

The fourth-generation Lexus LX will be available at Lexus dealers in the United States starting in the first quarter 2022.
