2022 Ford Focus Facelift Revealed with SYNC 4 and Mean Green ST

The mild-hybrid engine range now includes a seven-speed dual-clutch auto.

Ford has updated the Focus with many changes inside and outside, following last month’s Fiesta update. For a cleaner front fascia, all trims receive redesigned standard LED headlights that include built-in fog lights. Pixel LED headlights can be purchased with a front camera that shuts off certain parts of the headlights to prevent blinding other drivers. The higher-spec lights use the camera to see the road ahead and illuminate inside curves.

The taillights of the wagon and hatchback get a blacked-out lens. There’s also an option for LED taillights that have a darker center and different light signatures. The Blue Oval has updated all Focus trims, including the sporty-looking ST-Line as well as the rugged Active, just like it did with the smaller Fiesta.

The Focus ST gets a new alloy wheel design and Mean Green paint, which is borrowed from the Puma ST or Fiesta ST. Ford continues to offer the performance version in both a hatchback and wagon body style, but interestingly, Ford doesn’t mention the diesel engine, as only the EcoBoost gasoline unit has been mentioned.

The cabin has seen major changes. The 2022 Focus now switches to Ford’s SYNC4 infotainment system. The larger touchscreen is 13.2 inches and supports over-the-air updates, as well as Android Auto integration and wireless Apple CarPlay. We have removed the controls for climate settings from the larger display to make it easier to use, but we are sure that some users will still miss them.

The regular Focus models get a turbocharged, 1.0-liter, three cylinder gasoline engine with 125 horsepower and 155 horsepower sent to the front wheels via either a 6-speed manual gearbox, or a seven-speed dual-clutch auto. The EcoBoost mill uses 48-volt mild hybrid tech to reduce fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions. The three-pot can also be used without electrification. It produces 100 hp or 125 hp, and is capable of driving a six-speed manual.

Ford keeps the diesel engine alive with a four-cylinder EcoBlue 1.5-liter EcoBlue. It can be ordered with 95 hp, or 120 hp. The oil burner can be used with either a six-speed manual or a more powerful unit that can be linked to an 8-speed automatic.

The Focus ST is unchanged mechanically. It continues to run on its turbocharged 2.3-liter gasoline engine, producing 280 horsepower. The 190-hp, 2.0-liter diesel engine is not visible on the Focus ST, as this could indicate that Dearborn has discontinued the EcoBlue unit in the ST’s facelift. The facelifted Fiesta ST will feature the body-hugging Ford Performance seating.

It’s not the only wagon that has been considered practical. The vertical divider allows for more cargo space and can be hosed down.
