Toyota Announces Chinook-Inspired Tacoma “Tacozilla” For SEMA

It won’t look like an appliance refrigerator in the truck’s back.

Are you a fan of the retro-styled Toyota campers that were popular in the 1970s and 1980s? The ones with the graphic decals on their sides, which are completely retrolicious , look amazing. These motorhomes were created in collaboration with Chinook RV Company.

If you are looking to purchase one, there are many available, and they sell for between $12,000 and $13,000. You can get a newer version of the Tacoma-based “Tacozilla” from Toyota. It’s inspired by the Chinook campers.

This retro-themed camper was built by the Japanese automaker just in time for this year’s SEMA Show. Above, you can see the original Chinook and the final Tacozilla. The original Chinook is shown on the left and the final version of Tacozilla on the right. It is a faithful tribute. It is equipped with a standard TacomaTRD suspension, with two inches of additional lift to allow for clearance at the rear wheels.

Tacozilla is a camper that aims to recreate the coolness of Chinook campers, but with a modern twist. The photo gallery shows that every detail was taken into consideration to create a cool, retro-styled camper. The base truck will be a Tacoma TRD Sport with manual transmission.

The truck is now on display at SEMA. It’s an updated version of the classic, complete with everything you need. Tacozilla provides comfortable sleeping arrangements, as well as a full bathroom, including hot water and a kitchen. There’s also a pass-through between the truck’s cockpit and the main cabin.

Tacozilla is a concept vehicle, so anyone hoping for a revival of Chinook will have to settle with its appearance at SEMA. The 2021 show will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from November 2-5.
