According to reports, 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone will be a luxurious version

Toyota may be preparing an answer for Ford’s Limited or GMC’s Denali.

Merriam Webster defines “capstone” as “the highest point or crowning achievement,” making it a fitting name for a top-of-the-line trim. Toyota appears to have chosen this name for its flagship all new Tundra. It will be positioned above the previously announced SR, SR5, Limited Edition, Platinum, 1794 edition, and TRD Pro.

Tim Esterdahl is a YouTube channel Pickup Truck plus SUV Talk. This image shows the Tundra Capstone, which was reportedly taken at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas (TMMTX), San Antonio. This photo is actually a screenshot taken from a Reddit video that was later removed. It looks more like the real thing than a photoshop.

The Tundra’s badge, “Capstone”, is not visible on the door. However, it appears that the Tundra makes more use of chrome than the 1794. (kinda) can see the “i Force Max” logo on its hood. This indicates that the truck was a hybrid powertrain, with a twin-turbo 3.5 liter V6 engine and an electric motor, for a combined output 437 hp (326 kW, 790 Nm).

It is not clear if it will be a hybrid-only model or if Toyota will also sell Tundra Capstones with regular gasoline engines. Tim speculates that it will be a Crew Cab model. This makes sense as the most luxurious of all the derivatives. The TRD Pro fully loaded or 1794 with hybrid will probably cost more than $60,000. It could be as high as $70,000.

For the 2022 model year, the Capstone will still be available to compete with the Ford F-150 Limited or GMC Sierra Denali. A member from the Tundras forum claims that he has been told by a Toyota dealer that this model will be the “mack daddy” of the new full-size pickup truck. Another forum member appears to have heard of the Capstone’s existence. One of them stated that it would come with an ivory/white interior. The truck’s headrests are visible in the image. These appear to be white.

The Capstone may indeed be coming for 2022MY. This reveal will likely take place in the next few weeks or months. Toyota’s new Tundra was unveiled only a month ago. It will likely wait until then to reveal the “high point” of its lineup.
