It still has side pipes, so don’t be alarmed.
The Mercedes G Wagen is undoubtedly one of the most well-known vehicles. There are few other cars that can offer the same visuals and sounds. A pair of test mules were recently seen in the snow, looking for the AMG version.
Purists rejoice, because the new model will still have a twin-turbocharged V8 underneath the hood. We also noticed the G’s side-exit exhaust pipe. They not only look great, but they also emit more V8’s deep baritone sounds into the cabin.
It would be remiss of us not to mention G Wagen’s role in pop culture, cruising down downtown LA on errands. It would be a mistake to not mention the G Wagen’s off-road capabilities. The bog-standard model had summer tires and 22-inch wheels. But, with proper rubber , it can transform into an absolute beast.
We can’t draw too many conclusions from the spy footage, as it only shows the Mercedes SUV traversing a very basic winter track. It would be great to put it through more challenging situations, but that’s all we have for now.
The exterior looks very much the same as the previous model. Only the wheel arches, and the leading edge on the roof rack were camouflaged. While we will have to wait to see what changes the German automaker makes, it is refreshing to see that the iconicly chunky exterior has not been altered.
