It is closer than you might think.
F90 BMW M5 quickly became one of the most versatile performance cars available thanks to its strong drivetrain, twin-turbo V8 and switchable all wheel-drive system. Although the F90 M5 is a powerful machine straight out of the box it can be easily modified and beaten by supercars with simple tuning. The carwow team raced the tuned M5 against the 992 911 Turbo S to see if it could compete.
The F90 BMW M5’s 4.4-liter twin turbo V8 engine produces 617 horsepower (460 kW) as well as 553 lb/ft (750 Nm). The power is transmitted through an 8-speed ZF automated transmission, and finally to a trick all wheel-drive system which can switch between all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. This powerful machine raises the BMW M5 to a level of performance comparable to modern supercars.
What happens when you tune an F90 M5 to achieve maximum performance? Today’s video features an F90 M5 with Evolve tuning kits. It has forged internals and hybrid turbochargers larger than stock. There is also a water injection kit to cool the intake temperatures. This M5 produces 1,000 horsepower.
Can a 1,000 horsepower M5 match the 992 Turbo S? It is the fastest production car ever made. The 911 Turbo S’s lightning-fast PDK transmission with all-wheel drive system has a 0-60mph time of just 2.3 seconds.
