Which econobox is the best?
City cars are well-known for their reliability and fuel efficiency. They are advertised as a reliable mode of transport that can get you from A to B in relative comfort. These cars are a great alternative to the bus and they’re not much to be proud of. However, JDM city cars have their own charm. This is especially true when you consider the fact that one of these cars has a pedigree in rally cars. The Toyota Yaris is not it.
The Might Car MODs guys are back and have decided to test their six-year-old project car, a 1992 Daihatsu mira against a second generation Toyota Yaris hatchback. It has received a few minor upgrades and the classic Mira has been meticulously restored. The engine is a 660cc, three-cylinder, and the TRXX X4 version gets four-wheel drive, a turbocharger, and a turbocharger. It produces just 67 horsepower and features wider wheels and coilovers for improved grip and handling. It’s like a Kei car but with steroids. It weighs in at just below 1,480 pounds. It is a mid-2000 Toyota Yaris that was purchased for just a little more than $2,000 and has a 1.3-liter four cylinder that produces around 86 horsepower. The rest of the car is stock. The lightbar is included to help blind oncoming traffic and increase aerodynamics.
The race will include three laps around the local racetrack, standing start, and lots of entertainment such as understeer, trash talk, and redlining manually-equipped city cars. Will the Daihatsu Mira’s weight savings, grip and turbocharged power be enough to beat the modern Toyota Yaris? You can watch the video and have some fun.
