Mercedes-AMG GT63 Drag Races Corvette C8 in Germany Vs USA Du

elOh my! What a terrible reaction.

The Chevrolet Corvette C8 is clearly not designed for drag racing. It’s far too comfortable and luxurious for true drag racers. It doesn’t have to be slow. However, it has to be able to handle multiple tasks as an everyday, track, and weekend car. This means that there are some compromises when it comes to standing-start races.

We don’t want to be partisans. That is why we shared the video at the top this page as an example of the compromised acceleration. The Corvette C8 is in a drag duel with a Mercedes AMG GT 63 4 Door. The race’s results speak for themselves.

We don’t have a detailed description of both cars, but we believe they are identical. The Mercedes’ twin-turbo V8 is 585 horsepower (430 Kilowatts), and can be channeled to all four wheels for a sprint of 0-62 miles per an hour (0-100 km/h) in just 3.4 seconds.

The Corvette C8 uses its 6.2-liter V8 engine with 495 horsepower (369 kW) to counter it. It is mated to an eight speed dual-clutch auto transmission that should propel the supercar to 60 MPH (96 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds.

According to the factory numbers, Chevy’s supercar weighs in at 3,366 lbs (1,527 kg), while the German four-door sports car is a little more than 4,508 lbs (2.045 kg). Although this is a notable advantage for the ‘Vette, is it enough to compensate the power gap?

While we won’t spoil the race’s outcome, we do want to point out that the actual gap between the cars is likely to be even greater than the one shown in the video. This is because the drivers’ reaction times were not particularly fast.
