It took seven months to construct, and there is still much work to do.
It can be difficult to choose the right bed for your child. Although there is a lot of choice, one Cedar City, Utah father couldn’t find what he was looking for in the market. He built it. Allan Casper, 32, wanted to gift his son a cool car bed, but he also wanted it to be unique. Last May, he designed and built a Ford Bronco mattress.
Casper, a certified flight instructor and journeyman carpenter, started thinking about how to make the bed. He’d never made anything like it before. The design was completed in the summer, before construction began in September 2020. It took seven months to complete the Bronco bed assembly. Casper finished the bulk of it last month, but his perfectionistism slowed him down. It still needs bumpers and taillights.
Casper spent a lot time measuring twice to make the bed. He then only had to cut once. The bed has functioning doors and lights, and can be disassembled and moved easily. It was mostly done by him alone with the exception of a few minor adjustments that required assistance from a pair of hands. Casper said that his son loves it. He says, “He plays more with it than he sleeps in at the moment, but he always smiles whenever he sees it.”
Bronco was also a name Casper gave his son. He even bought him a Bronco-like Power Wheels toy to ride in. The kid will have many more experiences with the iconic off-road vehicle. Casper, a Bronco enthusiast himself, bought a 1972 Bronco two years ago and plans to restore it with his child in the hopes of making many lifetime memories adventuring. We would say that he is off to a great start.
