Radford makes its first car.

It is clear that Lotus is moving on to electric cars. The Evija EV Hypercar leads the way, while the Emira, the last Lotus internal combustion engine-powered sports car to be revealed fully in July, is the swan-song.

There is a glimmer of hope for Lotus Engineering to make non-electric cars. Radford, a coachbuilder that was founded in 1948 at the same time as Lotus, has announced that it is making its first car using Lotus technology.

The teaser that appeared with this release doesn’t mention that the new car is electric. Radford’s first car is in advanced development. A full reveal will be made later in the year. This could be the future for ICE-powered Lotus.

The team that created the first Radford bespoke car (see photo above), is insistent that the new car would be a Radford.

“Our first car, which will be completely new and unique, will be a Radford. It will be unique. The body will be elegant and sleek, while the interior will be luxurious and cossetting. And the drive will be truly extraordinary. Radford’s Mark Stubbs, the owner, said that everything about it would be completely bespoke.

We can be sure that the Radford car is luxurious and completely customizable. Lotus will be focusing on the more oily parts of the project. Mark Windle, Lotus Cars’ managing director, stated that Radford is an amazing team to work with.

“Engineering nirvana is a limited-run of the most unique of coachbuilt vehicles. It allows us to escape the constraints of a more traditional project. Lotus Engineering has a history of special collaborations, and I’m certain this one will be regarded as one of the best,” Windle said.

The details of the first Radford Lotus-based car are expected to be released later in the year. The company will soon accept deposits.
