2023 Ford Mustang Engineer Says He Worked On Hybrid Engines

According to his LinkedIn page, that’s what he said.

The S550-generation Mustang is believed to have ended in 2022. The 2023MY will bring the seventh generation of the pony car. Ford published a job posting on LinkedIn, last February, seeking an engineer to work on the S650 program that was set to be completed for the 2023 model-year. Flash forward to today, LinkedIn provides us with another clue about the new sports car.

Pedro Maradei, a member of the Mustang7G forums, claims to have been involved in the S650 Mustang program for five month, from July 2020 to November 2020. He was specifically involved in the “low-and-high pressure package analysis” of the 2.3-liter four cylinder and 5.0 liter V8 engines. Both are part of a hybrid powertrain.

You can see that Pedro Maradei has extensive experience with Mustangs, having been the powertrain product development engineer for 10 years. The next-generation sports car will be listed as a 2023MY by him. This means that sales are expected to begin at the end of next year or early in 2023.

Although the hybrid engines are not yet confirmed, it is possible that Ford may be considering electrifying the EcoBoost and the naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine. The V8 in the S550 ‘Stang GT and Mach 1 versions of the S550 ’Stang is losing 10 horsepower and 10 pound-feet in order to comply with stricter emissions regulations. If reports are true, a hybrid component could be added to improve efficiency and futureproof the powertrains.

Autoline Daily reported that plans have already been made for an all-electric Mustang two-door. It is expected to go into production in December 2028. According to wild rumors, Ford will discontinue the ICE-powered sports cars at this point. This would imply that the S650 will enter production in December 2028.
