Original Lamborghini Countach Designer Don’t Like The Remake

Marcello Gandini would like to be heard.

Lamborghini unveiled a successor to the Countach which was one of the most iconic products in the history of the brand. Only 112 copies of the revived model will be produced. This is a completely different project than the Countach restoration. It was unveiled several weeks later, and brought back to life by the creation of the first LP 500 prototype. What does the original Countach designer think about the modern-day version?

He isn’t happy, but that’s a fact we can cut to the chase. Marcello Gandini is also responsible for designing other Lambos such as the Espada Jarama, Miura and Diablo. He recently released an official statement regarding the new Countach. It reveals that Gandini did not support the project. There’s an interesting story behind Gandini’s disapproval. Here’s his official statement:

“Marcello Gandini clarifies, that he hasn’t participated in and doesn’t approve the project. That he didn’t give him placet” Autoweek explains that the last word of the sentence is a Latin root for “approval”. Marzia Gandini Provera (Gandini’s daughter) and her PR agency, firm released the statement.

Gandini called Mitja Bokert last spring to discuss a scale model. According to legendary designer, the project is Bokert’s “personal tribute” to Maestro Gandini. However, Gandini was not shown the model as a low-series production model during the interview. The project was not approved or supported by him.

“Thus Marcello Gandini would like reaffirm his role in this operation and, as the creator and author of the original design, would like for us to clarify that the makeover doesn’t reflect his spirit or his vision,” Gandini stated. He said that this design lacks a spirit of innovation and breaking with the mold. […] Although marketing and markets have changed significantly since then, I believe that to revert to a past model is to negate my founding principles.
