The cost of the project was only $3,400
Do you remember Doc Hudson, the animated character in Cars. The Hudson Hornet was the last-end of the ponton design, which was a standard automobile form between 1930 and 1960.
The 1949 Ford, also known as the Ford Shoebox, was a formidable competitor to the Hudson Hornet in the market. The Shoebox was the first model to be produced by Ford and it has been widely regarded as the hero of the Blue Oval.
One particular example required some saving, but the help of a 2008 BMW 3 Series coupe was provided by Barcroft Cars.
John, a Sahuarita resident, purchased two cars that were heading to the junkyard. The 1949 Ford was left in Phoenix’s garage for over 20 years while the BMW 3 Series, which was damaged in an car accident, was sold to the insurance company. The initial cost of the car was only $3,400.
John believes that the combination of classic Ford lines and modern BMW technology is a great mashup. He even called it a raw, antipurist project. They were able to incorporate modern conveniences into the curvy lines and shape of the Ford classic, including air-conditioning, heater, cruise control, he said.
The body of the project was made by Ford, while the chassis came from BMW. John and his friends had to first remove the body from the old vehicle, then cut the body out of the new coupe. John wanted the turbo and short-stack exhaust pipe sticking out of the hood, but they decided to preserve the welds from the replacement panels to tell the story of the build.
You can see the result in the video below. Is it a cool build? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
