How basic is the base Toyota GR86 model?
The aftermarket will be able to buy cars such as the Toyota GR86. Most of the parts attached to the car will be removed for more extreme modifications. If the buyer intends to modify the car, it is a waste of money to choose the top-of-the-line model.
Toyota has also released an ultra-basic version their sports coupe, just as they did before. This version of the GR86 is called the RC and rides on steel rims. How bare is it? Let’s have a closer look.
The steel rims are there because it is almost certain that their future owners will replace them. The wheels aside, it is almost impossible to distinguish the RC model the other models. The base model has Bi-LED headlights, and gloss black mirror caps. If the buyer wants to go a bit more extravagant, they can order it with metallic paint.
The GR86 RC is not too bare. There is a blank plate in the middle of the audio system, but it is close to the one that you will find on the higher trims. It doesn’t have the leather seats and two-tone theme that the higher trims get. We doubt that this will bother the buyers. Air-conditioning is available, with automatic climate control.
It’s a very well-equipped base model. Toyota has replaced or discarded the items that are likely to be modified by the aftermarket crowd and left the creature comforts intact. Those who expected a GR86 with windows that open up will be disappointed. It doesn’t seem to include cruise control.
The base price for the Toyota GR86 RC at current exchange rates is 2,799,000 yen. This includes taxes. It costs approximately $24,500. The $27.700 base price for the GR86 is a comparison. It’s certainly more equipped than the RC. The US base model has 17-inch alloys, a brighter interior, an 8-inch touchscreen and six speakers.
The sight of a sports coupe with steel rims is still quite amusing. If you are brave enough to drive them in the snow, these smaller, thinner steelies might make a great winter set.
