It could use the plug-in hybrid V6 of 296 GTB.
It’s been more than three years since Ferrari first announced that it was working on an SUV. Although the company provided many details about its new model, we will not know all until it is officially launched next year. We’ll need to look at spy photos and videos until then. We happen to have one new video from the Varyxx YouTube channel, which captures the Purosangue as well as its intriguing exhaust note.
Ferrari isn’t being too specific about the Purosangue powertrains. However, we know that the new model can accept several types of propulsion systems. Although it seems likely that Ferrari will slip a naturally-aspirated V12 under its hood, there may be other options. Although the spy video does not show anything new, it does show something: the absence of a strong exhaust note.
Other traffic is visible in the video, but the Ferrari passes by the camera eerily silent. The car’s V12 exhaust note has been captured in spy videos. However, this vehicle may have the plug-in hybrid engine from the 296 GTB. The twin-turbo engine V6 and the electric motor create a powerful 818 horsepower (609 kilowatts), and 546 poundfeet (740 Newton meters) of torque. This would be enough for the Purosangue people-mover.
We will likely have to wait until the mode’s full debut in order to see all details about the powertrain – unless there is a leak – but it seems like there will at least be two options. Ferrari claimed that the Purosangue’s mid engine architecture would allow for flexibility, making it difficult to pin down details. Although it may seem sacrilegious for Ferrari to add a five-door SUV model to its lineup, there is no doubt that the model will live to the company’s hybrid performance standards.
