SUVs are still a profitable segment in the high-end market.
Although Aston Martin was late to the SUV party fashionably, it is better late than never. Gaydon’s first sport utility vehicle, the DBX, has already risen to the top of sales charts thanks to the large investments made at the New Wales plant. The high-riding AM, which was delivered in late Q3 2020, is also in demand.
Aston Martin has released its Q3 2021 results. These show that Aston Martin sold 2,186 DBX SUVs in the period January through September. The other products sold 2,064 units during this time. The British company has a split lineup: Sport, GT and SUV. The Vantage, GT, DBS and DB11 are all part of the Sport category. Specials are limited-run, exclusive cars.
The total number of cars sold in 2021 is 4,250, which is a remarkable 173 percent increase over the same period last year. Aston Martin has been spotted at work testing a future version of the DBX to maintain its sales momentum. The high-performance version is expected, but plans are in place for a mild hybrid model and a faster plug-in hybrid. It is yet to be confirmed if the rumors of a V12 version will come true.
The DBX is already off to a strong start, which is not surprising considering the SUV segment continues to be booming regardless of whether we are talking about luxury or mainstream products. Similar results were achieved at Lamborghini’s Urus, and it’s not surprising that Ferrari’s Purosangue will surpass all other prancing horses in terms volume.
Rolls-Royce’s Cullinan and Bentley’s Bentayga are both incredibly popular sellers. This is why the list for automakers that don’t have an SUV keeps shrinking. McLaren doesn’t yet have an SUV, but Mike Flewitt, the CEO, is stepping down. Mate Rimac, the founder of Bugatti Rimac, has not dismissed the possibility of an SUV made from Molsheim.
