It roars.
The Chevrolet Performance ZZ632/1000 Crate engine has a remarkable output of 1,004 horsepower (738 Kilowatts) & 876 pound-feet (1.188 Newton-meters). The massive mill is 10.36 liters (632 cubic inch) in displacement. Below is an Instagram post by the company allowing us to hear the beast roar.
The ZZ632/1000 produces its maximum horsepower output at 6,600 rpm. Chevy Performance recommends that it not exceed 7,000 rpm. This engine produces a perfect sound for a muscle car. The engine starts with a low growl. The noise gets louder as the engine revs up. The noise isn’t even raspy or high-pitched.
The engine is cast-iron and has a crankshaft made of forged steel. All connecting rods, pistons and rocker arms made of forged aluminum. Aluminum is also used in the intake manifold as well as the cylinder heads. Chevrolet Performance recommends using gasoline with a 93-octane rating or higher.
The engine’s reliability was confirmed by the developers who performed over 200 simulation drag strip passes with a dynamometer.
Although this is Chevy Performance’s most powerful engine, it is quite expensive to put into your car. This powerplant is $37,758. Delivery doesn’t begin until 2022 so it takes a while to save for one.
Chevy Performance has partnered with Hoonigan in order to show off the ZZ632/1000’s potential by fitting the engine into an 1988 Chevrolet Camaro. The car will be on display at the SEMA Show. The engine is so high that the air filter would almost be in the driver’s eyes. This beast looks terrifyingly exhilarating.
We can’t wait for builders to make this crate engine available once it is. It would be great to see a sleeper vehicle that uses a 1990s Buick roadmaster wagon, even though it appears stock. Someone needs to put this V8 in the back of a Corvair for something truly wild.
