Clever RV Awning adds 1,000 Watts Of Sun Power to Almost All Campers

It’s the Xpanse and is ready to power your off-grid vacation.

Many modern motorhomes, camping trailers and campers have solar panels as standard equipment. This is especially true for those who enjoy off-grid adventures. However, it can be difficult to balance power usage without a shore connection. A new company, Xponent Energy, offers a unique solution with a retractable awning made entirely from solar panels.

The Xpanse is capable of producing over 1,000 watts. The panels fold in a awning-like fashion, folding into a base that can be easily transported and then being retracted once the vehicle has arrived on site. The panels extend out seven feet when in use to provide shade. Its universal design means it will fit most motorhomes and camping trailers that have a roof large enough to support the base. You can mount two awnings on each side to generate more than 2,000 watts of power. Additionally, the awning does not take up much roof space, so it is compatible with existing solar panels.

Xponent Power claims that the awning provides a power boost and is stronger than traditional fabric awnings. The Xpanse is capable of withstand greater wind speeds and will retract automatically if the wind speed exceeds a threshold. Although it is not waterproof, it can handle water better. Although liquid won’t harm the panels, gaps between cells can allow water to seep through and cause discomfort for people who are below.

While it’s a great solution to power problems that doesn’t compromise anything, it comes at a price. Xponent Power charges $10,000 for the Xpanse. However, if you pre-order your unit before November 15, it will cost $7,500. The company also mentions tax credits, which could translate into additional 22 percent savings. Delivery is expected to start in the second quarter of 2022. However, interested parties can pre-order now by paying $100. This deposit is fully refundable.
