McLaren Artura Involved in Head-On Crash with BMW 3 Series

This is not a way to be smug.

Physics doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t matter whether your supercar is actually new. The McLaren Artura is. Although the high-performance hybrid was introduced earlier in 2021, deliveries to customers began only recently. Unfortunately, there is already an Artura casualty.

It appears that the only injuries sustained in the collision were to the cars. Supercar Fails Instagram says that the crash occurred in Spain. We hear people saying that they are fine. This is a good thing, as head-on collisions can cause serious damage and it certainly did. Talking of which, this is a BMW 3 Series battling the Artura. While we don’t know what caused the crash, some commenters on the Instagram post claimed that the Artura was actually an Artura press car from McLaren.

McLaren’s first hybrid production series is the Artura. The P1 was expensive and exclusive, but the Artura’s $225,000 cost and higher production targets make it more affordable for those who have the means to purchase them. It is almost as fast as the P1 in terms of performance, thanks to its hybrid powertrain that produces 671 horsepower (500 kilowatts) and includes a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 engine and one electric motor.

McLaren limits the supercar’s top speed to 205 mph, which is 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds. It can run 19 miles on its own electric power, and is a plug-in hybrid. The lithium-ion battery pack in the vehicle can be charged up to 80 percent in just 2.5 hours. However, it is not heavy. The Artura is only 3,303 pounds thanks to its clever packaging and tons of carbon fiber.

This particular Artura won’t be going anywhere by itself, it is obvious. The front has suffered extensive damage, but the fact that the door is open is a good indicator. Although we can’t see if there is damage to the cockpit or not, it is possible that the car can be repaired, despite the fact that the front crumple zones are working well. The BMW doors are also open, but the space between the door and the fender is very slim. The 3er would be destroyed if the unibody was modified.

It’s a costly mistake, regardless of the outcome. Keep safe, people. Don’t listen to the devil in your back when he tells you to turn the throttle.
