BMW M3 E92 Top Speed Run Reminds us Of Brand’s Good Old NA V8 Days

This is a living example of a vehicle that can stretch its legs on the Autobahn.

The BMW M3’s legendary straight-six will be a constant conversation piece, just like the Corvette’s V8 and the Porsche 911’s flat six.

But Bimmer enthusiasts would be surprised to learn that this was not always the case. BMW introduced the M3 with a naturally-aspirated, 4.0-liter V8 engine sometime between the mid-2000s and 2013. The bold move made the M3 E92 a European muscle vehicle.

This would be the last generation of the M3 to have the BMW S65 motor. The S55 follows in its footsteps, marking BMW’s return straight-six engine.

How good was the BMW NAV8 back then? It actually had good performance numbers in the past. It can sprint from a standstill to speeds of 62 miles an hour (100 km per hour) in just 4.8 seconds. However, its maximum speed was electronically restricted to 155 mph (249km/h). The E92 M3 can reach speeds up to 190 mph (306 km/h) without the limiter. However, this is not confirmed.

Nevertheless, there is one way to find out. That’s by going on a top speed run. AutoTopNL put on a top speed Autobahn run to provide one living example.

You would have seen by now that this BMW M3 had the legs to achieve its full potential. The speedometer measured close to 310 km/h, or 193 mph. This confirms that the speed limiter is not necessary. The engine sounds great and you can imagine the excitement the tester felt while running.

Is the BMW E92 M3 hotter than any other 3er? We’d love to hear your opinions in the comments below.
