Godzilla is on the horizon, but it could be quite different as a new platform has been confirmed.
There have been many rumors about the next-generation GT-R over the years. But Nissan indirectly confirmed that the R36 supercar was real. Although the V6 is being retired by the company’s Aussie division, it still meets side-impact crash regulations. However, the demise of the vehicle is temporary.
For something more substantial and official, CEO Makoto Umchida had a conversation with about the direction that Nissan’s next flagship sportscar will go. Although he didn’t give any details, he said that the GT-R team is “looking at ways we can make it electrified.” Nissan’s top brass described Godzilla as a “professional machine” and said that they need to figure out how to make it work in the future.
It is not certain that Nissan will continue to rock the electric road with the GT-R R36. Uchida said: “Whether we go through a lot or none at all,https://www.motor1.com/news/52726-model-based 370Z-powered 370Z-based 370Z-based 370Z-powered 370Z-based 370Z-based 370Z-based 370Z-based 370Z-powered 370Z-based 370Z-based 370Z-s-z-auto-news/2012/www. The company’s head honcho confirmed that the high-performance coupe would ride on a new platform. This is in contrast to the latest Z sportscar which has its 370Z-based underpinnings.
The GT-R, whatever its form, is highly anticipated. It must own the track. It must also play the most advanced technology game. However, it doesn’t have to be an electric vehicle. It is possible that the R36 will not be arriving in Europe if Nissan opts for electrification. Europe has stricter emissions regulations. The new Z will also be a forbidden fruit in the Old Continent.
It’s still unclear when a new GT-R will be available to replace the model that has been around for 14 years. Uchida stated that engineers could “achieve a lot power-wise” when it finally arrives. The twin-turbo V6 VR38DETT 3.8-liter V6 VR38DETT produces 710 horsepower and 775 lb-ft (780Nm) in its most powerful form. It is pictured here.
The R36 should see healthy sales, especially if it gets electrified. The price of the R36 will be a concern for enthusiasts, as the base GT-R costs $113,540, while the Nismo starts at a staggering $210,740. The GT-R50 was a huge sticker at around $1 million.
