Audi Prologue unveils CES-inspired piloted driving concept

Audi has unveiled the Prologue piloted driving experience.

Audi’s Prologue piloted driving prototype was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The piloted driving concept is basically an updated version of the original prologue concept . It uses a laser scanner and several video cameras, radar sensors, ultrasound sensors, and other sensors mounted out of sight. The information gathered by the various cameras and sensors are feed into a central controller known as zFAS (zentrales Fahrerassistenzsteuergerat or central driver assistance controller) which enables the model to drive itself.

The concept uses a hybridized powertrain, which consists of a twin turbo 4.0-liter TFSI V8 motor, an eight speed e-tiptronic transmission (with a built-in electric motor), and a 2.6-kWh lithium-ion batteries. The car can produce 677 PS (505kW) and 950 Nm (701lb-ft), combined.

The Prologue piloted driving experience accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds thanks to its extra power. The concept is efficient in terms of fuel consumption, consuming 7.9 L/100 km (35.7 mpg UK/29.8 US mpg) and emits only 185 grams of CO2 per km.
