Hyundai Reassures Veloster That It’s Here To Stay, But With A Simplified Lineup

It will be available in 2022.

It was rumored at the start of this week that the Hyundai Veloster might disappear after 2021’s model year. A news outlet claimed that the quirky coupe could be discontinued following the current model year. However, the South Korean automaker denied the report.

Driver reached out to Hyundai and they confirmed that the Veloster will not be discontinued and would get a model year in 2022. The three-and a half-door hot hatch is available in the following models: 2.0, 2.0 Premium Turbo R-Spec Turbo and Veloster N. However, the 2022 model year will see a simplified range.

Although it is premature to predict which trim level will be discontinued, it is safe to assume that the range-topper will remain. The Veloster N will be available in 2021 at a starting price $33,255 for a manual gearbox or $34,755 for a dual-clutch auto. The 2.0 model, which has 147 horsepower, is the most affordable 2021 Veloster money. It starts at $19 905.

The sales of the sports car fell by roughly 50 percent last year compared with 2019. Hyundai managed to sell just 7,581 units of the model, compared to 12,849 in 2019. Although there is no information on whether the Veloster will receive any upgrades for the model year 2022, it seems that the Veloster’s sales are likely to be lower than 2016.
