Nissan teased the 400Z Production during Pathfinder-Frontier Debut

Apart from the Z Proto, there’s a Z car.

Sometimes automakers can be difficult. You’ll often find Easter eggs hidden under photos and videos. Sometimes, automakers will throw something out in such a obvious way that people are left wondering if it really.

This is where we are right now, after watching the livestream from Nissan for the new Pathfinder/Frontier. Did Nissan make a run for it with the SUV and pickup trucks? Yes, we have contacted Nissan to inquire about this. We’ll talk more about it in a moment.

The Pathfinder/Frontier livestream shifted to Nissan’s Japan design studio for a closer look at the new models. However, our enthusiast noticed a gray Nissan Z car in background. It’s and not. There’s only one Nissan Z Proto. It is a striking shade of yellow that will make your eyes swell. What is the gray Z in this model?

Nissan teased the 400Z Production during Pathfinder-Frontier Debut

It looks almost identical to the Z Proto at first glance. But that’s where the problems start. Nissan claimed that the production version of the next Z car, widely rumored as the 400Z, would look very similar to the concept. The camera is just far enough back in this case to show the car clearly, but not reveal any intricate details. We took the closest possible screenshot and increased the level.

It’s not possible to get a clear view of this sports car. However, it is enough to suggest that there may be minor differences. This car is higher than the Z Proto and the headlights are closer to the nose. The headlights could be slightly more angular. Are we also seeing a different design for the lower trim with the rocker panels? Although the wheels look identical to Z Proto’s design, they are larger. The tiny side window in the back has no tint.

It is impossible to say whether this sneak peek is actually a glimpse at the next production Z because of the distance and the glare and shadows in studio. However, can confirm that this is a very deliberate display of Nissan’s car on camera. It’s interesting to note that Nissan initially replied to our question by confirming that the car was a gray one. There are also questions from the automaker.

All of this combined, we think that this is a static mockup. It all looks mock-up, from the ride height to the location and the miscommunications in Nissan’s communication chain. Is it a mockup of the concept or the production car? It doesn’t matter what, Nissan wanted to show it.

We’ll update you if we have more information about this mystery machine.
