Mercedes Teases 2022 C Class Sedan, Wagon In Advance Of The February 23 Debut

You will be able to see a lot of new features behind the familiar appearance.

Over the past year, our spy photographers have captured the next-generation Mercedes C-Class numerous times. Mercedes has not used camouflage to hide the new model due to its evolutionary design direction. Even has seen the interior redesign of the automaker. Mercedes released a teaser photo previewing the new sedan, and wagon as the model’s debut nears (scheduled for February 23).

Teaser images show each car in profile, with the wagon in front. Both cars are silhouetted and the image is very blurry. The wagon is slightly taller than the sedan which could indicate the All-Terrain high-riding All Terrain version. Mercedes could have stubbed the models in the photo to make them more easily identifiable. The teaser shows a pair similar to the Mercedes models today. Mercedes appears to have retained much of the C-Class’s exterior styling. Under the sheet metal, there are more significant changes.

Its familiar exterior hides a slightly larger model. The wheelbase is just under an inch longer, and it gets 2.5 inches more length. The interior gains are modest: an inch more rear legroom and half an inch more headroom. The C-Class interior takes cues from the S-Class’s new S-Class. It has a digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster, and a 12.8-inch touchscreen which houses the second-generation MBUX infotainment system. The info screen is located above the list of physical controls.

Because the new car has a small engine bay that can accommodate an inline-six, powertrains will only be limited to four-cylinder units. This includes AMG models that are hotter and will likely have hybrid turbocharged four cylinder engines. These engines could produce more than 500 horsepower (372kilowatts), which should make up for the lack in cylinders. The gearbox will also be changed – the 9-speed auto will remain the only transmission option. Mercedes will unveil the new C-Class in February 23rd.
