BMW introduces M2 CS Racing as an Affordable Track Machine

The ultimate club racer

BMW Motorsport is well-known for its success at high-caliber races all over the globe. Bavarian automaker BMW Motorsport has recently increased its focus on affordable entry to motorsport. This has been demonstrated with the BMW GT4 and the BMW CS Racing.

BMW will use its expertise in high-performance road cars to make BMW’s racing version of M2 CS a winner. Markus Flasch, president BMW M GmbH, stated that “our expertise meets halfway between high performance cars for the road, and pedigree race cars, namely the growing club racing section.”

The M2 CS Racing starts at EUR95,000 (105,160), and comes fully prepared to race at your desired level. An S55 2.9-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine produces between 280 horsepower (205kilowatts), and 365 horsepower (268 kW) depending upon the Balance of Performance classification. A maximum 405 pound-feet (550 Newton meters) of torque can be produced by the S55 engine. It is controlled via a 7 speed dual-clutch transmission. BMW Motorsport has upgraded the software to make it easier to locate gears. The gearbox was originally from the M2CS road car.

ABS and DSC are standard equipment on the vehicle. However, amateur drivers will most likely disable them. It’s nice to know they are there for those who have ambitions that surpass their talent. These driver aids are complemented by a mechanical limited slip differential that delivers power.

The M2 CS Racing will be delivered in mid-2020. However, the car has been extensively tested. It was tested at Miramas in France and Portimao, Portugal. Its first race appearance came in the VLN Endurance Championship Nurburgring series at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife. BMW Motorsport Junior Beitske Visser, (NED), and Jorg Weidinger, (GER), were both successful in their first campaign. Although they weren’t fast in the race, they provided valuable data for engineers about racing conditions.

BMW’s efforts in club racing are a great example of how expensive racing can be. We want to hear your thoughts about the BMW initiative to offer a competitive racing package.
