Ford has revealed the 2015 Focus ST ahead of its debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The facelifted model instantly recognisable by its modified bumpers, new hood, and slimmer headlights. New 18-inch alloy wheels and restyled fog lamps were also added to the car.
The cabin gets a small makeover, including a flat bottom steering knob, a revised center stack, and improved climate control. A new center console features a media bin and a smart charger for USB.
Two engines will be found under the hood. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost four cylinder produces 250 PS (183kW) and 360 Nm (265lb-ft). The hatchback can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.5 seconds before reaching a top speed at 154 mph (247 km/h). The new engine start/stop system allows the hatchback to average 41.5 mpg UK (or 6.8 L/100 km) and emits only 158 g/km.
The U.S.-spec model is rated at 252 horsepower (188 kW) with 270 lbft (365 Nm) torque. Ford declined to provide further details, but it should be comparable in performance to the European model.
The new TDCi 2.0-liter diesel engine produces 185 PS (136kW) and 400 Nm (295lb-ft). The car can go from 0 to 62 mph in just 8.1 seconds, and reach a maximum speed of 135 miles per hour (217 km/h). Owners can expect average fuel efficiency of 64.2 mpg UK (or 4.4 L/100km in the USA) and CO2 emissions of just 114g/km.
The 2015 Focus ST features a retuned suspension that includes new front springs as well as sportier shock absorbers. The 2015 Focus ST also features an upgraded power steering system, torque vectoring control system, and an Electronic Transitional Stability function. This allows for optimal control and precision during sudden changes in direction at speed, such as when there is a lane change.
Ford of Europe Vice President of Products Development Joe Bakaj stated that Ford has a long history of producing high-performance hatchbacks with excellent driving dynamics. The new Focus ST more than lives to this reputation. Bakaj continued, “The engineering improvements to the suspension and steering systems deliver greater responsiveness and agility as well as precision and an exhilarating driver experience, regardless of which powertrain you choose.”
The Ford ST will be made available for order in Europe by the end of this year. The first deliveries are scheduled for early 2015.
