Parnelli Jones Sells His Ford Mustang Saleen

One of 500 only.

Parnelli James is without doubt America’s most skilled and experienced professional racing driver. Jones has won numerous victories behind the wheel, and as an owner of a team, Jones deserves some recognition. In the late 2000s Saleen created a limited-edition Ford Mustang Series with unique tweaks.

The car is visually reminiscent of Jones’s best years in motorsport. There were only 500 examples of the sports car, and the first was built for Jones. The Mecum Indianapolis auction will auction this particular car between May 14-22. It has just 6,520 miles, so it is likely to fetch a lot of money.

Chassis number. The 001 is stunning with its orange exterior and black decals. This color combination is identical to the Bud Moore Boss 302, which is also carried over into the interior. You will also find the signatures and Parnelli-Jone signatures on the dashboard.

There’s more to this than meets the eye. The 5.0-liter V8 engine is forged internally and can produce a peak output power of 400 horsepower (298 Kilowatts) as well as 390 pound-feet (528 Newton meters) of torque. Through a five-speed manual transmission, the power is directed to the rear 19 inch wheels via a five speed manual gearbox.

This Saleen-tuned Mustang was made to honor Jones’ victory in the SCCA Trans-Am Championship in 1970, when he drove a Ford Mustang Boss 302 for Bud Moore Engineering. It is likely that it will not be cheap at Mecum’s Indianapolis auction this month.
