This build was inspired by a rendering.
The DeLorean is well-known to all – at least to those who have seen the Back to the Future trilogy. Since the 1980s, the sports car is a popular icon and part of popular culture. Many of my generation’s kids would love to have one, along with the Lamborghinis and Ferraris. Tom Moceri is the same story.
Moceri’s DMC-12, though stainless steel with gullwing doors, is much more than a wedge. His DeLorean actually came out of a rendering by Khyzyl Salesem. Its real-life counterpart was spotted by Kyle Loftis, 1320video, at this year’s SEMA Show.
Moceri’s DeLorean began its life as a red-painted, battered-up example that was ready to be sent off to a junkyard. According to Moceri, it was the most expensive DeLorean at the time. However, through his manufacturing company Salvage To Savage, a plan to restore the sports car to its former glory was created.
Moceri wanted to be different and took inspiration from Saleem’s renderings. This DeLorean is anything but ordinary, from the cool light strips at the front to the LEDs in solid acrylic blocks at its back, the DeLorean is nothing less than extraordinary.
Moceri’s unit was equipped with an LS engine swap. This was in addition to two Garrett turbos and Turbo Smart wastegate. One-off Jg3d intake manifolds were also included. This build is unique because the 5.3-liter V8 engine is coupled to a Porsche 996 transmission.
Unfortunately, this build was more of an exhibition car than a street-ready vehicle. It would also be very risky considering the turbos’ position. Moceri stated that he hasn’t finished the build yet, so we can expect modifications to make it street-ready.
