It could have up to 40 horsepower more.
There are rumors that Chevrolet will build a stronger Camaro to mark the end of this model’s life. According to GM Authority, the latest report suggests that Chevy may put the 6.2-liter LT2V8 from the Corvette into a muscle car.
The Camaro’s SS and LT1 models currently use the 6.2-liter LT1 engine that produces 455 horsepower (339 kilowatts), and 455 pound feet (614 Newton-meters), respectively. The LT2 would increase the output to at most 490 hp (369 kW) or 465 lb (630 Nm). It could reach as high as 495 HP (369 kW) or 470 lbft (637Nm) with the performance exhaust.
GM Authority reports that Chevy has stopped investing in engineering or development resources for the Camaro. This rumor seems unlikely to be true.
There are many speculations about the Camaro’s future. One claim is that Chevy will be releasing a Collector Edition for 2024. It would include carbon-ceramic brake disks, carbon fiber trim and a spoiler. This package is rumored to be available on the SS and LT1 models, as well as ZL1. The production might be limited to 2,000 units.
Another rumor is that Camaro ZL1 could receive the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 from Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. The vehicle would have 668 horsepower (498 kW), 659 lbft (893 Nm) which is an increase on the current 650hp (485kW) or 650lb-ft (881Nm) respectively. According to reports, the model will arrive in 2023. It would be available for only two model years.
Motor Trend was told by an anonymous source that Chevy almost built a new Camaro Z/28. It would have used the 670 horsepower (500 kW) 5.5-liter LT6 engine from the new Corvette Z06. It would also have a manual transmission, which is not the case with the Z06. Before the project was completed, the automaker decided to scrap it.
A wild report claims that Chevy plans to keep the Camaro name alive when the current coupe is discontinued, but the new model will be an electric sedan. The EV is expected to arrive in 2024.
