Glickenhaus Shows Off Hydrogen-Powered Boot Pick Up

To be exact, hydrogen fuel cells

We can’t talk about James Glickenhaus without first addressing his latest concept car. Keen readers will be able to see what we mean, but for the rest of you, there’s not much Mr. Glickenhaus haven’t done.

He started his career as a producer and film director. Although none of these films ever made it to the top at the box office, Glickenhaus did produce a few moderately successful pieces of cinematography, most notably “The Last of Us”. The Protector Jackie Chan’s career was launched by this.

Glickenhaus, who had been a filmmaker, made the difficult transition to the automotive and motorsport industry. He quickly found his feet in off-road racing after he started in circuit racing. It was clear that the Boot was in good shape after a solid finish to the Ford Bronco R at the 2019 Baja 1000.

It is not surprising that it takes its name from the Baja Boot which Steve McQueen famously piloted. It is still one of the most popular offroad vehicles, even with McQueen at the wheel.

Glickenhaus has teased plans to build an hydrogen-powered Boot in not too distant future. It’s still in its early stages, as Glickenhaus states that the vehicle will be able to run with a very good range. But let’s not get too caught up in semantics. A hydrogen fuel cell will drive the vehicle. This eliminates many of the problems associated with regular electric cars. The hydrogen can be completely refilled in just five minutes.

These are renderings of the Boot Zero in both four- and two-door versions. We are not sure what Glickenhaus will do with the concept. However, we would bet that another Baja 1000 attempt is possible.
