Corvette Chief Engineer demonstrates how the C8’s Frunk issue was fixed

It’s a little more difficult to open the frunk with the key fob now.

Recently the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette was recalled due to the problem with the frunk opening on the road. C8 supports over the air updates so owners don’t need to go to the dealer. Tadge Juechter, chief engineer at the ‘Vette, shows how the issue can be fixed in a new video.

To open the frunk on the key fob, you had to double-tap a button. Chevy believes that the panel accidentally opening was due to people doing it accidentally. If the fob is hidden in someone’s pocket, it’s possible to accidentally press the button.

Chevy’s software update changes how owners open their frunk. To open the panel, tap the fob, release it, and hold it down.

Juechter does not address this issue in the video. However, the Corvette’s speed is now limited to 26 mph (42 km/h) if the system detects the frunk is not properly latched. The interior button has been modified to require a longer press in order to open the panel.

General Motors says the recall applies to 6,661 Corvette 2020 units. The recall also applies to vehicles that have not been delivered to dealers.

Many owners have complained about their C8’s popping out while driving . You can also see this happen in videos. In July, GM stated that it was conducting an investigation into the root cause.

Chevy had already recalled the 2020 Corvette due to a strange issue with the frunk. Because a person inside couldn’t get out in certain circumstances, it was not compliant with federal regulations. This is despite the fact that it is so small that one would have to be a conortionist to make this a problem.
