This Ford Bronco Restomod Mixes Old and New

It will be up for auction in January.

Mecum will auction an unusual 1978 Ford Bronco mod on January 15. The exterior is the same as the second-generation SUV, but it has the headlights of a Ford Super Duty and the interior is straight out of an F-Series truck.

It is amazing how the SUV’s exterior looks. Until you reach the front, almost everything looks identical to a standard ’78 Bronco. It might seem like a modern Ford product if you look at it directly. This rig’s hood is different from the standard grille. It lacks the “FORD” branding at the leading edge. Chrome bumper includes fog lights and a winch.

Unexpected surprises await you when you open the door. This Bronco has more than just a bench seat with boxy aesthetics. It now features a modern infotainment system and instrument panel. The interior features a King Ranch trim from the F-Series and is a mixture of dark brown and orange with black accents. The back features a leather-upholstered bench seating.

Modern technology is also used in the powertrain. Under the hood is a Coyote V8 crate engine of 5.0-liter. These powerplants produce 460 horsepower (343 Kilowatts) & 420 pound-feet (569 Newton meters), according to Ford. It is powered by a six-speed manual transmission. The mill also features a custom-built suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes.

The auction listing states that this vehicle was built over a period of two years and was not derived from a donor vehicle. It’s not clear what this statement means. Perhaps the creators traveled through two universes before they finally found an alternate reality in which this beast existed.

This unique SUV could be the perfect choice if the Bronco isn’t your style. This SUV has the same looks as the Bronco, but it comes with a modern interior and powertrain.
