We think we have enough Tesla drag racing to show that the Model 3 can match supercars in straight line matchups. Is it fast enough to beat a Porsche Taycan Turbo S EV?

This drag race video asks that question. Yiannimize We wanted to know the answer and the owners of each performance EV put their names on the line. We couldn’t help but notice the mismatch between Taycan, the top dog, and Tesla, who is at the lower end.

The Model 3 Performance produces 483 horsepower (356 kilowatts) while the Taycan can produce 486 pound-feet (659 Nm) of torque. The German EV produces 751 horsepower (560 kW) while the Model 3 Performance makes 774 lb/ft (1,049Nm) of torque. This is a huge advantage.

Although the Model 3 is heavier than the Taycan at 994 pounds (451 kg), we felt that the Model 3’s power advantage was sufficient to compensate for the extra meat.

That’s exactly what happened in the drag racing above. The Porsche dominated the Tesla in a quarter mile sprint on a prepared surface at Santa Pod Raceway, UK.

Despite this, we believe the Model S plaid should not have been present to face the Taycan. The newest Tesla has completed a pre-prepared surface in less than 10 seconds. It is also the fastest production car. This matchup has been seen before. Porsche should seriously consider making a rival to the Model S Plaid.
