It should be a beast at the drag strip.
LG Motors Texas has a Chevrolet Corvette C8, which the company plans to turn into a drag-racing machine. The new ‘Vette is now on 15-inch wheels, the latest step in this evolution. This video shows the setup.
LG Motorsports’ decision to swap the 19-inch stock wheels for the 15-inch versions is due to a better launch. Mickey Thompson drag racing tires have huge sidewalls that wrap around the wheels. The tires shrink down when the driver accelerates off of the line and the weight shifts to the back, creating a bigger contact area.
Look at the opposite end where LG Motorsports can fit narrow tires. Drag racing is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. The goal is to reduce rolling resistance at both the front and back.
The nitrous system is also available on the Corvette of LG Motorsports. The car ran the quarter-mile in 12.09 seconds in a March test. The power caused the half shaft to break on the third run. The company has since installed stronger parts from Driveshaft Shope, and added an custom exhaust. We are excited to see the car’s potential with these modifications and the 15-inch wheels.
Chevy produced just over 2,700 C8 Corvettes before the COVID-19 pandemic. The model still needs strong aftermarket support, as evidenced by the work of Hennessey and LG Motorsports. There are many ways to modify the C8.
